This movie is adapted from the drama with the same title written by Mr. Cao Yu, one of the most famous writers in China. This story is about the events that happen in 1930s in a large feudal family in Beijing. The ups and downs and separation and reunion of the family members illustrate that feudalism still controls Chinese people more or less though the feudal system is abolished throughout China.
