On August 13, 2004, the 28^th Olympics saw its opening ceremony at the main stadium of Olympic palaestra, Athens, capital of Greece.

With elaborate design and organization, the passing of Olympic flame before the opening ceremony was unprecedented remarkably. For the first time, the Olympic torch covered all the five continents globally. All together, 11,099 athletes from 201 association members of IOC participated in the competition of 28 sports, 37 discipines and 301 events.

The opening ceremony was extremely impressive. The poetic and ethereal performances given by Greek troupers revealed to the whole world the romance of the Aegean Sea and the civilization of ancient Greece.
